Project, the overview

Dove, the simbol of peace

Dear Project members!

Greetings from Japan

Hello. Welcome to the Peace Project. I'm a chiefco-odenator, Akira Nakajima, an English teacher in Eniwakita Senior High School, Hokkaido, Japan. At the beginning of the introduction, let me show you how the project has been given birth to.

Your teacher and I are the members of 3rd AEC, Asia Europe Classroom, which was held in Bogor, Westjava from 28 Sep - 2 Oct. At the conference, we met more than 70 teachers from 18 countries! As the consept of the conference suggests, we are now trying to build a bridge between European and Asian schools to promote crosscultural relationship on educaitonal level, beyond nationality, gender, or creed. You'll see how amazing it is to find various facts hidden behind cultural barriers when it appearrs through the activity, as if you might think I were a female teacher.

The project is composed of 7 groups of students; Japan, Malayisa, Singapole, Philippines, Indonesia, Sweden and Finland. Total number of participants will be estimated as more than 100. I believe that such a variety of participants will certainly enrich your activities. The activity itself is quite simple. You'll will create collaborative work with your firends abroad via email exchanges. Let me tell you about it.

The Activity

(an overview: for more detailed information, ask your teacher)

1st: You'll write something freely about Peace or Non-peaceful issues. These compositions will be sent to foreign groups of students. You can write anything as long as it has something to do with (non-)peace; Imaginary stoies, Poems, Stories based on the history or facts you hear from your relatives, for example.

2nd: You'll also receive several stories from other foreign groups around February. Then you'll draw pictures along with them. The stories are based on foreign ideas so you may find it difficult to imagine what is going on there! Just imagine and try to work with colorful crayons or paintings. If it is too difficult for you, you can ask about it to the original group of students via email. This is all the same with your stories for foreign students. When you receive questions from them, you will answer to it. You'll probabry be surpried at the questions because you may think the story is quite ordinal part in your culture, though it will soon turn out to be the part of your cultural uniqueness! No one know what will become of the activity, but I bet you'll be absorbed in these email exchanges. Enjoy drawing pictures!

3rd: After the pictures completed, your teacher will create a webpage for you to exhibit them. Of course, you'll see those of what foreign students drawn for your story there. It may be quite interesting because your story might be translated into quite foreign illustrations! or it may still be based your original ones. Difference? Simirality? The backgrounds you and other students have are quite different, but you'll see something similar with each other. I hope you'll find something valuable for peace and for your future as well.

Have you ever thought about Peace? Yes? Some of you probably think enough about it, as something around you implies the importance of it. In this case, I wish you will be pleased to tell your experience to other friends abroad, as Peace itself won't be reached with your own effort. And you? No? But don't worry, you'll learn from your friends in other coutnries.

Enjoy your activity! And just think what is peace for you!

Yours

Akira Nakajima, the chiefco-odinator of the project, Eniwakita Senior High School, Hokkaido, Japan
