A loud sound coming from the street below, jarred Suziefs grandmother into reality, confused for a split second until she saw her sweet granddaughter sleeping like an angel. She sighed and walked across the room towards the window. She looked up resting her eyes on the clouds in the middle of the night sky. The world has truly changed she thought. Her eyes slowly drifted below to the ground where all but a few houses lay in ruins, a heap of rubble. She watched the soldiers march by and shoot a civilian in the street for no apparent reason. She had to turn away. The past few weeks had been hell for her. Houses had been bombed and innocent people killed. Her poor granddaughter had no idea what was going on. They were to evacuate the town the next day. She sighed and walked away from the window to her own bedroom. She got ready for bed with only one thought in her mind as she fell asleep.

Will the world ever be the same again?

gCome on, Grandma!h wailed Suzie as she tried her best to drag her Grandmother up the stairs to read her a bedtime story. Her Grandmother just laughed and promised she was right behind her. Suzie cheered and sprinted all the way to her bedroom. Her Grandmother sat at the foot of her bed and tucked her in.

gIfll tell you about the time when I was young and life was so wonderful sometimes I feel that I am in a different world now,h she gazed at the ceiling dreamily. gThings were so peaceful, there were no worriesc

The hills were green as I strolled along enjoying the scenery; a swing hung under the big old oak tree.
My four sisters and I always spent a little time just to enjoy each otherfs company; we played with every single living thing on the surface of the earth.
I was fourteen, and I had a friend called Tommy who was my best friend. We went to school together, my brothers liked him too but my elder sister didnft have a lot of time to play with us, she kept on going out with her boyfriend, Jake.
When we had some free time, we helped out our parents to clean the house. Our neighbours were part of our family; there was no need to lock our doors.
I was on my way home after picking some berries for my mother when Tommy came running up to me.
gHey Emily, I saw you in the fields, where are you heading now?h he asked.
gWell I was heading home but now youfre here letfs go do something fun,h I suggested
gOkay, but doesnft your mum need those berries?h he asked, concerned.
gI guess,h I said slowly, thoughtful. gTell you what, why donft you come to my house and we can grab my brothers to come along and have some fun!h He agreed and we raced back home
After gathering my brothers, together we made our way to the yard where we met up with a few neighbourhood children. As a gang, we decided to play catch in the long grass. We spent the whole afternoon there running, laughing and having fun without a care in the world. I was dripping with sweat when I was ready to go home. On the road home I saw colourful flowers dancing in the breeze. My heart felt so light my feet felt as if they didnft touch the ground, I waved hello to everyone I passed. These people are my family, I thought.  Everyone had a smile on their faces. I knew everybody in the village. I looked down the lane with all the huts lining its sides. This was my village. This was my home.
